How to monitor your site using google analytics ?

In this blog , I’ll show you how to add Google Analytics to your Google Sites website. Google Sites is a free tool by Google that allows you to create professional websites easily. To get started, go to sites.google.com, open the site you're working on, and navigate to the settings option. Here, you’ll find the "Analytics" section, where you can enter your Google Analytics tracking or measurement ID to connect your site to Google Analytics.

To set up Google Analytics, visit analytics.google.com, click on "Start Measuring," and enter your account name and settings. You'll be asked to provide details like your website's URL, business industry, and the type of data you want to track. After setting up the account, you will get a unique tracking ID.

To get the tracking ID, go to the "Admin" section in Google Analytics, and under "Property," choose "Web." Then, enter your website's URL (after publishing it on Google Sites) and select the stream name. Once done, you will receive a measurement ID. Copy this ID and return to Google Sites, paste it into the Analytics settings, and enable the option.

Once you've connected your Google Sites website to Google Analytics, it’s time to dive deeper into the setup process. Here’s how you can ensure everything is configured correctly and start tracking data effectively:

1. Setting Up Google Analytics Account: First, you'll need to create a Google Analytics account. After entering basic information like your account name, select your data-sharing options and confirm the setup. Then, you'll be prompted to create a property, which is essentially a new website or app that you want to track. In this case, select "Web" because you're setting up analytics for your Google Sites website. After entering your website's URL and other details, you’ll be asked to choose a time zone and currency, so the data is accurately reflected.

  2. Choosing Your Industry: In the next steps, Google Analytics will ask you to select your business category and industry. This helps Google provide more relevant analytics and insights based on your business type. For example, if your website focuses on technology, select the appropriate category like “Computers & Electronics” under the “Internet and Telecom” industry.

  3. Configuring the Measurement ID: After filling in your business and website details, you’ll reach the page where you can configure your Google Analytics stream. A stream represents the specific data you want to track from your website. For a Google Sites website, paste your published site’s link (without the "https://" part) into the field provided. Once you've set up the stream, Google will generate a unique measurement ID, which you’ll copy to connect your site to Google Analytics.

  4. Connecting Google Analytics to Google Sites: Now that you have your measurement ID, go back to your Google Sites settings. Under the "Analytics" section, paste the copied measurement ID and click the "Enable Analytics" option. Google Sites will confirm that the analytics are activated, and you’ll be able to track visitors, traffic sources, user behavior, and more right from your Google Analytics dashboard.

  5. Tracking and Insights: Once connected, Google Analytics will begin collecting data from your website. You can monitor real-time visitor data, user interactions, traffic sources, page views, bounce rates, and even set goals to track conversions (like form submissions or product purchases). This is a great way to optimize your site and understand how users are interacting with it.

  6. Advanced Features: Google Analytics offers advanced features like setting up custom dashboards, tracking specific user actions (events), segmenting visitors based on demographics or behavior, and setting up eCommerce tracking if applicable. You can also link Google Ads to your Google Analytics account to track ad performance and ROI.
